Lately I have been thinking hard on the furniture I will be taking to the new house, what style I want, colours and all those sort of things. Still undecided on a few things but I thought I would buy some books and have a read. I have to say I just love the creamy french interiors as I have allot of the creamy french furniture myself and can not see myself getting rid of it.

And I don't think we need an introduction to Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic and white!!!
The possibilities are endless when starting from scratch. I think my biggest problem is deciding to go for white or cream walls??? If cream, does anyone know of any good colours for my walls that will help me get that French look? Thanks for your help!

Hi Siobhan big decision white v cream. You know I would personally go for white anyday of the week but if your thinking of a cream I would use Dulux Chalk USA. This colour is creamy and just gorgeous. Try it on a wall first to see what light it throws. Hay good luck Sandy x
ReplyDeleteHiya Siobhan, hmmm big decisions eh? Yes I cant see you giving up your beautiful french furniture, its divine! I nice creamy white I use a lot is called Dulux White Birch (used to be called white opal I think). has a nice yellowy cream base. I actually used it here in my office area on the skirting boards etc so I am looking at it right now and it has a really creamy tinge to it especially next to the white walls. grab a sample pot and see what you think.

HI Siobhan, I just painted my house and ended up using dulux antique white USA. I really like it as its close to white but not as white as the ceiling, it does have some creaminess to it. The best is to get some sample pots. I agree with Sandy too, Chalk USA is also nice. In my blog hopping I see alot of people are adding that french influence in their decorating, including me. It just has that timeless elegance that goes so well with the shabby chic look even if it's only a few pieces here and there. Infact I am hoping to do my formal lounge in the French Provincial style, or as close as I can get to it. Bye for now, Maryann

ReplyDeleteWay too many choices these days
I think Dulux have the best range
I painted our Daddo Walls "Shell White" they look great
I'm sure whatever you choose will be wonderful
xo take care xo
Big decisions to be made here Siobhan! The wall colour here was one of our biggest decisions too. We went with "Sugar Cookie" by Haymes. It is more of a pale biscuit colour than cream though. We wanted something warm without being too dark and it goes really beautifully with white trims. Good luck deciding!
ReplyDeleteSo many colours, so many choices! I spent months painting squares of cardboard before I found exactly the colour I wanted - it was a long slow process but well worth it because after 8 years I still love the colour I picked. Good luck with the hunt! Leigh
ReplyDeleteGo for white, but not a clinical one, white whith a very little cream in it !that's what I have. Look what Rachel have, she chose for white too ! Have a great week-end !
