Wall colour & fireplace tiles

Hi everyone, first I would like to thank you girls for coming past after so long and remembering me...I have not had time to visit all my fav blogs but I will get to it soon. Yesterday I had a colour appointment to pick paint and I think I have decided to go with basic Antique White USA to the internal walls rather then a creamy white on the walls as when I put a sample of my French furniture up against it I feel there is too much cream. I asked the colour consoltant what she thought and she agreed so the walls are back to being basic one colour and split up with a solid white picture railing. I think it will be fine and come together well once I make all the other decissions. This weekend we are off to pick tiles for the front of our fireplace too. I already picked the fireplace feature tiles which I have to say I just LOVE!

How pretty are these? Not sure about what colour to put on the floor in front of the fireplace...I wish they had a tile with similar colouring like the mustard in the background but sadly they dont. We have to pick carpet this weeked as well...wow...now I feel like its really happening! I just wish I was feeling better than I do now, this cold isnt feeling too good...migrains, runny nose, cough...oh well I suppose I will get there. Have a great day. xo

Colour selections and picture railing?

Hello, its been a very long time since my last post...lots happening...selling our house, moving into my mother and father in laws, battling with the builder over variations etc, etc. Yesterday we finally signed our contract, you have no idea how relieved we are to get here after this long. So, now I have a HUGE job with colour selections! I think I know what I want but when I'm giving too many options sometimes I tend to freeze a little. We are having picture railing and two toned walls, full strength to the bottom and quarter strength to the top but I'm not sure about the picture rail colour? Do I go lighter or do I keep it similar to the top section? Hmmm??? Very confused at the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, sorry I have been away from blogging all week...this packing is killing me!!! Every time I look at a box I am getting a migraine so does that mean I hire a skip bin and just get rid of the rest? Well, it is an easy way out but I don't think I could do it. Anyway, I need your help...today we are choosing skylights for the attic which is going to have cathedral ceilings rather than a flat top. I am so confused at the moment with making a decision...do I go square or rectangle?

What would you choose??? I have been recommended to go for one 1mt by 1mt square but I don't think its enough as its a big room so I want to put at least two in to make it nice and bright. The other thing I have on my mind is, is square set too modern for me??? Help please!!! Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, so my husband sat me down the other night for a serious talk, 'I know you are excited about the new house but do you think you could just hold off on buying anymore furniture until we move in?' I know I shouldnt be buying at the moment with things heading into storage so we struck up a deal (I think I got the better end of the deal) He said I could buy one more piece and thats it till we move in so I said, 'Deal' after all I had already picked the piece I wanted! So...what was all this about??? Only the most beautiful piece I have eva seen!!! Take a look at whats coming my way...

Even the back is handpainted...WOW! I think its unbelievable...even if the back is a back which doesnt get seen its still complete.

Sadly I wont be seeing much of this piece, its off into storage as soon as its picked up from the lovely Samantha over at Shoestring Splendors Treasures who is one of the sweetest ladys on eBay with the BEST treasures eva!!! If you dont know of Sam please do head on over and check out her items as they are simply stunning! A special thank you to Sam for letting me use her lovely photos.

Now I do hope I can keep my end of the deal that was made with my husband...its asking a lot isnt it??? How do you stop yourself from buying beautiful pieces when you know you shouldnt be?

Falling in love with blue all over again

Here I am sorting yet again...going over all my paintings which I just adore to bits BUT I just cant take everything with me can I??? I had planned on reselling some of my paintings I bought from my lovely and very talented friend Gail as I have a heap of them on the walls and plans for new ones once we have moved in but when I took these photos I think my mind has changed and I have fallen in love with them all over again!!!

This was my very first set of paintings I bought from Gail...a fair few years ago now! I love how she used the old ceiling tin look frames!

And this one was when I was more of the blue girl and didn't has much pink in the house at all. Gail used a photo a jug I had in my collection at the time...didn't it turn out lovely?

And I can remember bidding for this one on eBay...it was a Friday evening and it was dinner night at my Mother and Father in laws house as I can remember sitting in the hallway on my husbands laptop waiting to put my last minute bid in lol. Isn't it funny what you remember at times?

So sorry guys, these ones are keepers now and wont be listed on eBay...I think they work really well with the cream french furniture and the soft blue fabrics which I just love! I love falling in love with things all over again. Do you have something in your collection that you have just taken for granted? Maybe its time to pull them out and fall in love with them all over again!

Boxes & boxes everywhere

I just love receiving boxes in the mail as I know there will be some goodies inside but when my husband brings boxes home empty I'm not to sure I like them? The last week we have started packing up all our treasures and getting ready for our move. Its going to be a big one after being here ten years so lots to clean out. Today's job is going over my linen cupboard and sorting out what I am going to keep so I'm sure it will be fun (not)! I just hate putting all my treasures into boxes not knowing when I will see them next...I really am going to miss them once they go into storage but its just something that must be done.

Thanks for popping in and visiting! I hope your week has been great so far, I'm not too sure where this week has gone as I really didn't get as much as I wanted done...oh well...there is always next week? Ive been looking for the perfect hall stand for the new house and last week while browsing eBay I finally found it and for only $100 buy now. WOW, what a deal!!! I showed hubby only to get the opposite reaction that I was looking for, 'Well, it looks very European doesn't it?' Hmmm...I wasn't too happy with that one but when I sent him on his way to pick it up he called me and said, 'This is really nice in real life!' So after that he has decided that wife knows best lol and told me he will leave everything up to me for now on so here it is...

If you haven't noticed I'm loving the old timeworn creamy yellowed pieces.

And the little old Italian cherubs are always a winner in my eyes.

Well the time has come for me to start packing up all my treasures into boxes...not the best of jobs but something that must be done. I have so much pretty china that is all hidden away in my cupboards, cabinets, kitchen & garage that now I have no idea what to do with it all? I don't think I'm going to be able to put it all into storage as I really don't want to see them break so instead I'm going to pop them all up for sale on eBay (when I get a chance to do so) so I thought I would give you all a peak and if anyone is interested you are welcome to email me for more information.

On another note my little man was excepted into the school swimming squad and asked to compete in the 50mtr butterfly, we were so excited for him! Sadly he developed a infection in his eye the past few weeks and was told by the doctor that he was to stop swimming till it cleared up. Its been a nasty infection which has traveled into the colouring of Jake's eye and if it went any further it may have affected his eye sight so swimming has been put on hold till further notice.

1 little, 2 little, 3 little fishy ribbons

Hi everyone, today's post is a bit of a mothers brag...well...how can I not after today's efforts? We had the school try outs today and I have to say that all the children done fantastic including my little fish who finished first on freestyle...funny thing is its hard to tell who's swimming in what lane when things happen so fast, mind you I knew which lane Jake was in but a few of the mothers in our group were a little confused when he shot off away from the pack as I heard them saying, 'Gee...who's that?' I know I must sound like one of those terrible mothers who thinks their kid has to be the best (which I'm not by far) but I have to say I was very proud! :)

After freestyle Jake competed in backstroke & breaststroke bringing in 2nd place to both, well done sweetheart! I have to say, I would have been just as proud had he not won a single ribbon as long as he gave it hes best, that's all that matters I think. Jake also gave the butterfly a go finishing 5th which was wonderful considering he just started learning this over January. Gee, I wish I could do a 50mtr swim in butterfly lol!!!

Now all we have to do is wait and see who gets into the squad, hopefully it will only be a few days as Jake cant wait too long and nor can I lol.

Valentines Day Treasure

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Hope you are all having a love-ly day with your special person. This morning my two boys and I were off treasure hunting...yep...my two boys tagged along which is something new as its not really their thing but I think they are really happy they did come along. My husband used to be a DJ in his younger years (not saying hes old, lol) and he still has all this old records, Jake (our son) loves the 80's music as well...like father like son with these two...no different I tell you! Over the years some of Canes records had gone missing due to sticky fingers but today he found someone selling over 60 Ex-DJ records from the 80's and in fantastic condition so he jumped on it. On the other hand I didn't really find that much...well...there were allot of pretty bits but I need to be good until we get into the new house so I passed up on all except for this sweet little piece which now holds my freshly picked roses...

I just love it...tarnish and all. Beautiful swags, ribbons and cameos!

Dreaming of Pools!

Well its another hot day in Melbourne and I can not help but think about pools since we will be putting one in our new backyard. Its days like this that I wish we were all done and moved in enjoying the hot summer splashing around! I was looking for inspiration via google and found these two lovely pools below...

My son Jake is trying out for the swimming squad at school this Monday, he has been really nervous in the past over tryouts but this years hes feeling OK about them and decided he wants to give it a go. I'm so proud of my little fish...well...maybe I will have to stop calling him my little fish since he is in gr4 this year but hey, I think we always see our children as our babies don't we?

Possibilities & Colours?

Lately I have been thinking hard on the furniture I will be taking to the new house, what style I want, colours and all those sort of things. Still undecided on a few things but I thought I would buy some books and have a read. I have to say I just love the creamy french interiors as I have allot of the creamy french furniture myself and can not see myself getting rid of it.

The possibilities are endless when starting from scratch. I think my biggest problem is deciding to go for white or cream walls??? If cream, does anyone know of any good colours for my walls that will help me get that French look? Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well and enjoying the new year so far. Sorry I have been distant this month...lots of happening in January with my boys both home. Sadly the holidays are ending and Jake will be back at school Tuesday...I'm going to miss him so much!!! I know allot of mothers have had enough of the kids by now but I just LOVE having my cheeky boy home anytime. Is It Christmas Eve Already?

Can you believe tomorrow will be Christmas? My gosh...where has the time gone? Are you all organized? Hope so! I am so sorry I have not posted much at all this month, Ive been running around mad trying to get everything done in time for tomorrow and finally its all done...well...except for our roast lunch with all the traditional trimmings that is!

In the meant time we have managed to visit some beautiful houses around Melbourne with stunning light displays (I am sorry about the photos as its so very hard to photograph them in the dark!) These would have to be our two favourites that we visit each and every year...

Aren't they gorgeous!

What a beautiful sight this was up high on a wall...

Sadly we didn't get to add to our light display this year and I feel a little guilty that we didn't get to put the family tree up...the big whopper tree that we put up each and every year but didn't get around to this time. Time has not permitted with all the duties I have been doing with the upcoming house but we are hoping next year will be the first year we will get to pop it up in our new home...fingers crossed! Instead we decorated a sweet white Christmas tree trimmed in silver and gold.

Creamy custard & jam cake...yummy!

Jake and I had a lovely Saturday morning baking. I think I have said before that my son is very fussy when it comes to cakes and wont eat any chocolate cakes as he says its too rich (he doesn't get that for me!) In Jake's eyes there is nothing better than a home made vanilla cake filled with creamy custard and jam sauce!!!

The jam sauce would have to the highlight in the whole cake for Jake

This week I sent my husband and brother off on a little pick up trip, when they came home they arrived with the ute & trailer full of furniture. Not like I need any at the moment but come on...how could you say no to these beautiful old French pieces???

Poppies & Roses On The Wall

Are you drawn to old antique paintings or is that just a silly question...??? Recently I picked up some wonderful antique paintings from an auction, not as if I needed anymore as I have so many pretty rose paintings from Gail McCormack & a beautiful cherub painting from Alicia but...well...I just couldn't put my hand down to these two pieces lol.

This first painting is an antique poppies watercolour signed by T. Phillips.

Isn't it beautiful?

And the second painting is an oil on canvas called 'Flowerpiece' signed by William Kearney, Melbourne & London. It still has all the information attached to the back which was really interesting.

I love the colours in this one!

So, which one is your favourite? I'm not sure I can pick??? I do love my rose paintings but I really love the detail in the poppies! Hmm...???

I'm hoping to find a wall in my house so I can hold on to them so I'm off to start looking xo

Was it worth getting out of bed to go to the market bright and early Sunday morning???? Well...YES!!! There were lots of beautiful treasures that I could have picked up but I just had to stop myself when possible as our house seems to be getting smaller by the minute! Although I was a good girl there was one thing I just couldn't say NO too...

This sweet chandelier candelabra was calling my name as soon as the lady popped it out on the table.

The sweet smell of jasmine

I have always adored the sweet smell of jasmine in my garden even if my garden is not that big in our current home and I don't have a spot in the yard to plant as its full of roses. Last year I saw a great idea on potting jasmine on the Better Homes & Gardens Christmas Special so I decided to give it a go. Ive been patient the past 12 months making sure its well feed all year long and this is what graced our garden this week...

Better Homes & Gardens called it a living wreath that you could display on your front porch for all to enjoy.

It is really a great plant to choose for this as the jasmine seems to flower from November all the way to January and the smell...well...its simply wonderful! We are sure to have a sweet smell in the garden this Christmas!!!

Ive been a busy bee creating more mosaics this week as well as submitting a whole lot of quotes for the house. Its going to take some time getting these quotes back as they seem to need a bit of a kick to return any phone calls which makes me really....GRRRR!!!

Been creating yet again, this time I decided to use a different feature and based this sweet little wall plaque around sweet daisies. I hope to have it finished soon...

Fun in the sun!

Just like the title, we have been having so much fun in the sun over the weeks that have pasted. Last Friday we just came home from a two week vacation up at our timeshares in Rosebud. The weather was perfect and the resort was practically empty since it was not school holidays yet. We spent so much time on the beaches so I thought I would share some of our favourite photos with you all.

These beautiful old boats are placed down the edge of the beach at Sorrento which is a lovely place to visit and do some shopping.

Ive just pieced together this Christmas decoration featuring a large pink cabbage rose & aqua glass tiles.

I really don't want to stick to one colour with these designs and am having a great time experimenting on these. I would love to hear your opinion on colour schemes you would like to see next.

I so love antique jewellery and often attend a well known antique auction house in Melbourne when I am able to do so. I have bought so many beautiful treasures from here and this lady would have to be my all time favourite.

It was love at first sight when I saw this hand painted cameo of a beautiful lady with amazing blue eyes and the sweetest pink and cream dress all under glass in cased with the finest silver and gold detail!!!

Its been eight years since I received this wonderful treasure and I still find myself opening the box and wondering the same thing each and every time...

I wonder who she was???

I was lucky enough to receive it still with the original case so I have tracked it back to Fairfax & Roberts Jewellers which stood in Hunter Street Sydney but I still no nothing of the enchanting lady?

Wouldn't be nice to find out a little more background into this enchanting little portrait?

Getting busy...

I've been wanting to do up some of my furniture for awhile and now that spring has sprung I've decided to get busy with it. The other day I had a package arrive and look what was inside...

Appliques, appliques and more appliques!

I brought these from a lovely lady in the U.S at Do It Yourself Chic and I have to say they are just wonderful!!! I wish I bought more now lol. Oh well, I can just see myself ordering some more in the next week or so. Below is one of the projects I am working on now...

Not sure if anyone feels the same as we do but cookie and cream babycakes sounds sooooo yummy and they taste so good too!!! Over the weekend Jake's sweet tooth got the better of him and he requested that we make some cupcakes...but the thing is...Jake never eats a whole cupcake and always ends up wasting it so this time I thought we could make babycakes instead which ended up being the perfect solution.

How much is too much to ask from a grade 3?

Well, I hope you all had a lovely Mothers Day, I know I sure did! I was spoilt with breaky in bed, lots and lots of squashy hugs and kisses, a vase of roses placed on my bedside table and rose pettles sprinkled all over my car by my sweet little man! What a catch he is going to be when he is older but for now im not sharing lol.

This week has been so very stressful on the whole family let alone Jake himself. He has been getting so much homework lately, projects, infomation reports, tests and the list goes on and on. On top of all this they are all happening at the same time which can be hard. We have been studying before school as well as after school when he gets home and only taking a break for dinner and still finishing up at 8.30pm just in time for bed. Yesterday morning I took him to school and he fell asleap in the car the poor little thing! Is it just me or is this too much to ask from a 8yo? Hes only in grade 3 and personally I dont remember school being so full on this early! I think we have just about done all the work for now...well...that is until he gets home tonight so I am giving him a break and taking him rollerblading this evening. I think he deserves a night off after all the hard work he has been doing. Jake's project was on Snakes and he was so very happy with how it all came together so I thought I would share a few photos that I took of Jake and his project this morning with you all.

He was so excited handing in his project this morning...we even found a few plastic snakes to stick onto this poster which was an added bonus as the children thought it was so cool.

Yes, I am so very proud of my boy, he is growing into a wonderful person with so much to look forward to.

So lucky to be a Mum

Mothers Day will be tomorrow and I can not help but think about how very lucky I am to be a mother and a wife. I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful son who loves me with all their heart. I consider myself very, very, very lucky to be blessed with my two boys and can not imagine life without them. I think anyone can bring a child into the world but not everyone understands what is involved with being a Mum? I feel very sad when I see Mothers neglecting their children and not giving them the love and attention they so desperately need and wonder how they can be like this? Jake and I have the most wonderful relationship that I treasure each and every day...we are so very close and open with each other which is very important to me. Just seeing him smile makes me so happy! I think being a Mum has made me a better person, taught me so much more than I ever knew and most of all showed me unconditional love which is the best of all!

So I would like to thank my husband and son for helping me be the Mummy I am and to all the Mothers out there, wishing you a very happy day filled with much love and happiness. We are so lucky to be Mothers!

Inspired by french ribbons and roses

OK, I finally got around to posting some photos of my newest mosaic piece which is now available on my website. I have been looking for a over mantle to mosaic for ages but never really found the right one. I didn't want to mosaic the whole front so I was keeping my eye out for one with recessed bits that could house my mosaic work. Finally I found this beautiful over mantle sitting at a flea market! Original beveled mirror and all! It just needed a bit of paint and some french china for the makeover.

This is my all time favourite china...Tracie...does it look familiar?

Its a real oldie this piece and made of blackwood so you can imagine how heavy it is!

I popped all the old hooks back in their original position as I thought it would be very handy to hang just about anything on.

It also features these two sweet little shelves in the top corners.

Sunsets & walks in the park ahead of us

Its been a long wait from the day we first put a hold on our block but the day has nearly come where we will be receiving our title. Finally we can put all the finishing touches on our working drawings and start constructing our new home. Our property is now looking like a block and not just a piece of land in the middle of nowhere. We have neighbours to one side as well as to our back so we wont feel so alone when we move in which is a good thing. We now have fences so its easier to see where the house & pool will be placed.

We ended up putting double driveways (one on each side) so we can construct a U turn drive through made of recycled bricks rather than try to grow grass down in Melbourne which is pretty hard to do at the moment with all the water restrictions. I'm thinking I will have nice borders of David Austin roses going all around the driveway and up both sides.

They don't have much else to do before hand over, just put the final layer of tar on the road and away we go so we are hoping to have title at the end May-early June.

Boys and their toys!!!

Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping warm with this cold Melbourne weather we are having at the moment. Over the school holidays Hubby and I decided it was time for an upgraded quad bike for Mr Jake as his knees were knocking on the handlebars! Anyway, I think he fits this one much better now!

I remember when my dad bought Jake his first bike I totally freaked out thinking how dangerous bikes can be but when you think about it, everything can be dangerous and if your child learns to respect the bike and drive safely they can have so much fun out in the open. My Dad is building a holiday house at the moment and it is situated on 20acres, I can just imagine Jake getting out on his bike and enjoying all the natural surroundings. Now Cane wants to buy a bigger bike for himself so they can go off together, not a bad idea really and its nice for the two of them to spend quality time together as father and son. My two boys have just gone off to the hobby shop to check out more remove control cars...like they don't have enough of them already??? Cars, helicopters, planes, boats...gee...when does it end? I'm not to sure which one of them is the bigger kid here? lol.

P.S. I have some photos to take of the new mosaic I have been working on but the sun is just so dull at the moment. I hope to share some pics this week.

Each and every year Jake has used the very same basket from his first Easter egg hunt. This morning he woke up and the first thing he looked for was his tigger basket. How cute after all these years he still remembers his basket.

Jackson's Hill ~ On Display

Today being a lazy Sunday afternoon our family was going about our normal day with the TV watching us,when a TV show called 'On Display' (channel 9) which shows new upcoming estates and housing designs spoke of Jackson's Hill where our new house will be. They spoke on the city views and even showed our block...how exciting!!! The above photo is of an old bridge which will eventually greet us on the way into Jackson's Hill as they are constructing a road through it...not sure when it will be started but it is already in the Melways so it shouldn't be too far off.

We finally and I mean FINALLY have the facade of the house looking just as I wanted minus the roller door glass panel inserts hee hee! We are really happy with how it is all coming together! We have decided on white double hung windows and originally wanted timber but have since changed to aluminum as I think there will be less maintance in future years. There are a new range of aluminum windows that are much more thicker than the normal ones now so I think they will work perfectly! We are going to use either shingles or tiles to the top of the front bay window which will all depend on what we use on the roof...not sure if we should go terracotta tiles in the tortoiseshell color or color bond in grey? Hmm??? I originally wanted to use recycled clinker bricks but have since had a bit of a shock on their prices so we are now leaning towards the old reds which are still very nice. I have yet to sell this idea to my husband as he still wants to go for the old clinkers. The chimney was my designers idea, who grew up with my husband. The first thing I said when I saw the chimney was, "Now Santa has a chimney to come down." lol. When I said I wanted a fireplace to our front room I thought he would just add a flue system but he said it would have looked out of place from the front of the house especially with the look we are trying to achieve so a chimney it is although it will hit the pocket a bit harder than expected. Oh well, we are doing this once and once only so why not?

I am currently working on two new pieces that will compliment each other perfectly, one being a nice smaller size mosaic and the other...well...lets just say its pretty big!!!

Collecting Perfume Bottles

Hi everyone! Its been ages since I last posted on my blog and I am so sorry for being away so long. Things have been very busy around here with getting things in order for the new house. The drawings are getting done at the moment and are coming along really well, it has ended up being bigger that we thought but I suppose we are hoping to do this once so we can not really cut down on space can we? We are up to about 42sq and counting...the higher it goes the more I wonder how much this project is going to cost which is a bit scary! I have been slowly changing my decor so when we eventually move I will not have to drag everything with me on the move to our new home. Well, that's what I am telling hubby as it helps me find new treasures on my shopping adventures lol. I was cleaning out my bedroom when I thought about some of my little collections I have going at the moment and starting thinking what others collect? I'm big on collecting perfume bottles at the moment...love them to bits so I thought I would share some of my collection with you all...

Another thing I like to collect is clocks...maybe I can share my clock collection with you all on the next post. What do you collect?

Hi everyone, yes I'm still very much alive...very tired but alive! We have been very busy enjoying the festivities at school in preparation for Christmas. We had the yearly carols last week as well as a school outing to the movies to watch High School Musical 3, musical concert this week where my beautiful Jake played his guitar fantastically, we are very proud of our sweet little man!

We have also been preparing lots of bits and pieces for our new home that we hope to start working on next year...I'm just popping all the window sizes in at the moment, choosing materials and all those sorts of things. I have to say...it makes me crazy at times but I know it will be well worth it in the end. We have now decided on another home...yes...a whole new design this time...Cane and I have been working really hard to get it all right with lots of late night or should I say early mornings? Its taking sometime to draw up all the plans as we are putting an in ground pool & gazebo with a joint pool house/shed in the backyard before the house goes up so its better to have them all on the same plan so we can get all the permits together. Oh and I forgot to say...we will now be going owner builder as we found out the hard way all builders are the same...like car sales men, they do anything to get you to sign up and then change their ways! I think it will be allot of extra work going this way but very rewarding in the end and at least this way I can make sure things are exactly the way we want them!

So please excuse my absence in blogging as it really has been difficult for me to find anytime for myself lately. Hope you are all doing well and I look forward to catching up with you all soon.

A Birthday Celebration

We had a special celebration yesterday, it was my mother in laws Birthday...Happy Birthday Mum!

Here is my mother in law with Jake, I am so lucky to have her as my mother in law as she is a wonderful lady!

We decided to take her out to one of our favourite places to dine...Victoria Restaurant which is situated at Victoria University down at Sunbury Campus. Our new block is only 10mins walk from here so I dare say we will be visiting regularly!

This is only one of the beautiful old historic building on campus which dates back to 1890-1915...you truly need to see them if you are in Melbourne...they are stunning!!!

Can you believe these buildings used to be the 'Lunatic Asylum' from 1879-1968? The actual building below which is the restaurant was the Men's Den....weird to think people flock here to experience wonderfully delicious dinners these days.

And I suppose you cant have a Birthday Party without a cake can you? mmmmm!!!

I promise to take more pics soon and I am intending to go on a tour around all the buildings and see some of the old plans...cant wait to share!

Pretty flowers? Ouch!

I can not believe I done something really stupid today...I was sorting out my spare room and found some big pink Christmas flowers I had planed to make wreaths with this year...so I pulled the heads of the flowers off the metal stems and put the stems on the ground...well...this is where I am stupid!!! I walked over the stems (which have metal rods inside) thinking I had shoes on...well...I had slippers but the metal rod went straight thought them as well as my foot....OUCH!!! What pain my poor foot is in!!! Oh well, that will teach me wont it?

Anyway, here are the pretty flowers which caused me grief!

Finally Decided On Our New Home!

Hi everyone, hope you are all well and enjoying the school holidays...we sure are!

I am so pleased and relived that we have finally come to a decision on what our home will be...we wanted an old cottage style look with an open plan living and were having a hard time finding the right one...always one thing or another! So we sketched out the plan that suits our lifestyle and are having it drawn up by a builder who has the sweetest cottage homes.

This is already someones home (sadly not mine lol) but I have gone for this same front but with our floor plan. I cant wait to get a move on things but I know its going to be awhile till we start as our land has not been released yet and wont be in a hurry. Oh well, the main thing is that the preparations have started for our new home and we are all very excited about it!

A Beautiful Place To Call Home

We have finally found a place where we would love to build our dream home! On top of Jacksons Hill at the Manor Estate in Sunbury is where we will soon call home, surrounded by beautiful heritage buildings, the old Victoria University, lovely bridges and wonderful parklands...oh...and did I mention city views? Today was not the best day for views but next time we are in the area I will take some more pics, you should see the view at night! WOW!!!

We have yet to choose the house we would like to call home but finding the right place to build was a job on its own and we are happy to sit back and wait a while till we know what we really want in our home.

Do you remember your first kiss??? Well, it seems they are starting out even younger than I can remember as Jake got his very first kiss today and he's only in grade 2! WOW!!! His little girlfriend Shaina ran up after school and gave him him a big kiss before running off leaving Jake feeling a little shocked and embarrassed at the same time, lucky Mum was there to help him walk to the car or I think he would have had a bit of trouble getting there lol. Oh...to be young again...Isn't young love grand!

Searching For A New Home...

A little while ago I went to an Estate Sale where I found these pretty German ballerinas which are so beautiful! I was hoping to keep them but it seems I just can not find the right place in my home which is really disappointing!

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been really quiet lately, I'm still getting over my cold...well when I thought I was getting over it I had a large box appear on my door step which ended up being my huge rose order for the year and they needed to get into their new homes asap so I had to get to work fast and in the cold!!!

This year I have gone mad on the David Austin English Rose varieties, I am sure you will agree they are simply stunning! Here are my new additions this year-

Decided On Camellias

I have been thinking...thinking...and thinking of what to put in my planters along the back fence of the courtyard, originally I wanted climbers but I couldn't make up my mind which ones. So this morning I thought I would wander down to the nursery and take a look around to see if anything jumped out at me. The staff were just putting out some beautiful camellias and I found my all time favourite 'Desire' which features the most exquisite palest pink formal flowers with deeper pink petal margins. It got me thinking why don't I make a hedge with these camellias instead? Oh, I think that is it! I am so looking forward to planting these beauties on the weekend.

What are you up to this Sunday? Well, after my market trip this morning I am finally going to sit down, put my feet up and read some wonderful magazines my friend Tracie sent me a little while ago. She has such a beautiful soul!

Oh, and I can't forget to put my rose order in tomorrow so I need to pick out some more favourites to add to the garden...hmmm...which ones to go for???
And here is our work in progress courtyard...still need to pick up the planters for the back fence, choose the climbers and get the tiles put down but I love how it has turned out so far! I planted lots and lots of pansy in various colour under the water feature ~ pinks, mauves, purples, yellows & whites.
And here is some artwork from my sweet little man Jake...there is not a day that goes by that he does not give me big squashy hugs and tell me how much he loves me...I have to say...I am one lucky Mummy that's for sure!!! :)

A Visit To Rupertswood

OK, I promised I would post about our trip to Rupertswood Mansion a little while ago and still have not got around to it so with a little time up my sleeve today I thought I would get stuck into it. Cane & I were married at Rupertswood back in 1999 and we always love going for a visit, it is truly amazing!!! There is so much history to Rupertwsood so I am going to share some of the info I found while searching with you all.

About Rupertswood...

At the end of a long winding drive, nestled amongst mature trees, stands Rupertswood. A remarkable architectural expression of the more genteel, Victorian era.
Its magnificent proportions and unique gardens lay testimony to the privilege and power that prevailed on these grounds. Built as a residence for Sir William Clarke, (first Australian born Baronet), it became a power seat in the great English tradition.
Balls, hunt meets and week–end house parties were frequent.
Anyone of note, in Victorian and Edwardian society, was entertained by the Clarkes.
Many historical figures visited Rupertswood, including Dame Nellie Melba, several Governors of Victoria and a rumoured visit by the Duke and Duchess of York, (later to become King George V and Queen Mary).
Rupertswood is a place steeped in history, perhaps best known as the birthplace of the “Ashes”, a tradition created from a social game between the visiting English Cricketers and a local Sunbury side, made up largely of Rupertswood staff.

Today, Victoria’s most famous country house returns to its original function as a centre of great entertaining.

Courtyard In Progress...

Well...just like the above says...courtyard in progress!!! Hubby has finally let me create the courtyard I have always wanted! It started out with just a concrete slab which was a little sad looking so we called in dad's friend to give us a helping hand and within 15mins we had a nice square cut out to the center. Now, what do you think we are going to put in here???

Jake even gave daddy Cane a helping hand with the jackhammering...sure looks like Jake is enjoying himself! lol. It was pretty hard getting him away from it once the job was finished.
Off we went to our favourite nursery where I found a beautiful antique water fountain...Please Cane...can we get it??? Its just perfect for our courtyard!!! Jake said something is getting delivered this weekend for Mothers Day and it is big, white and rusty, lol. What do you think it could be??? Could it be this???
Some large planters for along the back fence...not sure what climber to use yet as we have allot of shade in here...any ideas?
Up to my dads house, oh...I think these tiles would go lovely in my courtyard as well!
And a stop at the Daffodil Farm around the corner from Dad's where I bought a bag of pearl daffodils & blue bells in shades of blue, pink and white. Cant wait to get them planted!
We still have lots to do as you can see but its all very exciting and keeping us busy as you can imagine. I hope to share more photos soon with you all.

P.S. Jake and I stopped by Rupertswood Mansion where Cane and I were married and took some beautiful photos that I will post the next few days so do pop by soon. xo

Finding That Special Something

Don't you just love going to the market and finding that very special piece? Something you have been looking for, for that special somewhere? And at a bargain price? Well, a few weeks ago I attended my favourite market and found some lovely treasures but the best part of the day was finding this antique cherub planter which was tucked all the way down the back of a little store on the floor. I could not believe my eyes when I saw it as I have been looking for that 'perfect something' for my outdoor entertaining table for a very long time. Needless to say, I would have spent allot more that $15 for it but that was the asking price so without a thought I snapped it up and popped it straight in the car for its journey to its new home.

I have a bouquet of silk roses sitting in it at the moment because I have not made up my mind what to plant it there, the hole is so small so there is not much space for the roots to grow. Any ideas?

Its raining here in Melbourne which is a good thing since we have not had much of it but I think im coming down with a cold...my nose is all blocked up and runny at the same time so I think im off to curl up in a ball on the sofa now. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day xo

Clearing Out My Cupboards

I done a bit of a clean out the last few week and really got stuck into the kitchen...I think I have way to much china in there and decided some must go so off to eBay they went. Here is a peak at some of them on offer...

Smelling More Roses

Its raining here in Melbourne but that didn't stop me from my outing to Poyntons Nursery today where they ordered me in some more David Austin Roses....this time it was the very beautiful Brother Cadfael Rose. She's so pretty and the smell....ooh la la!!!

These blooms are so big and really do remind me of the beautiful peony rose...how can you go wrong with this?

I bought two bushes to put under my front lounge window...what a lovely smell we will have up the garden path

Last week Janet from Shabby Fufu done a lovely post on the chairs around her home and asked us all to bare our favourite chair so finally I am getting to it!!! This is my favourite chair around the house which is actually my computer chair but it made its way next to the telephone stand the other day when Jake was chatting away to a friend. I found it earlier this year at an antique center and snapped it up straight away. It works perfectly with my french desk.

And here is another favourite chair which I like to sit back in while adoring my roses but it looks like someone has beat me to it??? I don't think I have a chance at getting little miss Rosie off there either!

A Birthday Surprise & Rocky Turns One!

We have a few birthdays coming up in the next few months so I thought I better get a move on things. This morning I booked a surprise...we will be celebrating Jake's 8th birthday on the Gold Coast - Queensland and he has no idea about any of it!!! Cane is currently working at the Airport so it will be easy enough to get Jake there without suspecting a thing...going to say we are off to see where dads working but once we get there and the suitcases come out im sure he will then realize there is more going on. Oh and I will make sure the camera is out for sure!!! I cant wait but that's a little latter on...but I do have another birthday to mention...today is our little Rocky's 1st Birthday! He has brought so much happiness into our family, the best dog ever! So loving & caring but at the same time really protective of Jake which is sweet! Very smart...too smart at times, lol. Happy Birthday Rocky, we are so glad you are apart of our family!

Sunny Refreshing Colours For My Next Project

My hands are sore!!! I spent the morning hand cutting lots of china for my next mosaic project. I choose a refreshing lemon china to work in with the pinks and florals which are featured in some of the china borders. I really am enjoying working with these colours and think they are complementing each other well in this piece, what do you think?

Little French Birdhouse

Birdhouses are so sweet and there are so many different ways you can decorate them but there is only one way I decorate mine...with lots of pretty china!!!

Add in some vintage pearls...

My Treasures For The Week

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Well, with everything going on...I felt like I needed to escape from the house just a little so I decided a market fix would be just right! I found some lovely pieces including an antique mirror which is hanging in the laundry, sweet little capodimonte lamps, some vintage rhinestones for my mosaics, beautiful plates & this wonderful German clock which features pink roses and blue forget me knots...

And look at this...I bought this beautiful vintage rhinestone tiara on eBay...ooh...I love it displayed on my dresser!!!

Last but not least...this is a little close up pic of something that I hope to start working on soon....what do you think it could be??? Hmmm???

Rosie's Recovery

We are pleased to say that Rosie finally came home last night and is doing well. She will be staying inside for the next week with little visits outside to have plays with Rocky who is very sad at the moment. We have to keep her on boiled beef or chicken mince with rice for the next week as she needs to be careful what she is putting into her intestines but after that we can change her food around a little bit but she is eating very well so we are happy with that. She is still very sore around her tummy but this will heal in time. Surprisingly she has not eaten her stitches!!! I'm still a little shocked that they are still there to tell you the truth...I hope they last another 9 days which is when the vet will remove them.

I would like to take the time to thank everyone for their warm wishes on Rosie's recovery. It really helped us get through her time in intensive care so thank you all!

Emergency Surgery For Rosie

It is 1am Wednesday morning and we have just come back from the Pet Hospital where Rosie is having emergency surgery as I type away...she wasn't really herself this evening...looking very uncomfortable and every time she drank her water she brought it straight back up, so we took her to the pet hospital where 'NOT' to my surprise they told me Rosie had a foreign object stuck in her intestines!!! It didn't really surprise me since she eats everything in her sight from metal, timber, rocks, roses, picket fences, sprinkler systems....and the list goes on but I must say the bill sure did shock the system a bit! Well, I don't want you to fall off the chair but i'll just say I wont be buying anything for a while!!! Poor little Rosie was looking at me in so much pain that we just had to have the surgery done before anything went wrong. She will be in intensive care of 24hrs minimum and then she will be kept watch over for another day or so before she comes home. Fingers crossed all goes well.

*UPDATES*

Wednesday 9am-Rosie has made it through surgery and is now recovering in intensive care. We had word that it was a large rock stuck in her intestines that they had to remove. Jake & I will be going to visit her sometime today so I will update you all then.

Wednesday 8.30pm-Rosie is doing OK in intensive care but very sore and feeling sorry at this present time. She was very happy to see us as were we to see her. She may come home tomorrow evening if all goes well if not Friday afternoon. The vet could not believe the tail wag when we walked into the room after the surgery she had! The poor thing has a huge cut from top to bottom down her belly :(

Thursday- Rosie came out of intensive care this evening. They have taken her off the drip too see how she goes but they may need to pop her back on as she is not really taking to her food. We popped by for a visit this afternoon and she tried to jump into my arms even with all the drips in her legs. She is looking much better and should be home by the weekend fingers crossed.

Friday- Rosie finally came home this evening!

Is It Easter Already???

I can not belive it is Easter this weekend...the year is going so very fast and my little Jake will be turning 8yo soon. We are going to have a nice quiet Easter this year...visiting family and friends but not much else as hubby has been super busy with work lately and is now exausted after all the hard work at the Grand Prix. I am not a big decorator with Easter but I do have my little Lefton Egg Vase out that I bought from my dear friend Kathy in the U.S. last year which holds my favourite roses sitting in the kitchen.

Jake and I are going to be making some easter cupcakes to bring along when we go visiting on the weekend so I will be sure to post some photos once they are done...we will be topping them with little chickens!!! Well, I better get moving...Jake finishes school today for the Easter break and I still need to get a few things done around the house.

New Mosaic Stool & Birdhouse

I hope everyone is having a lovely week, it has been really hot in Melbourne so I haven't really been getting much done around here plus Jake has been home not feeling good all week but between all my duties I did manage to get a little work done. Here is the new birdhouse I showed a few posts back...

Last of all here is a new pic of Miss Rosie. I was picking some roses this morning and placing them on the little stand when she jumped up to smell the roses...how cute! I wish thats all she done...we have had to put little fences around all my roses as she destroyed all my other plants plus ate the picket fence that my husband built!!! When we bought our Pierre De Ronsard Weaping Roses she tryed to eat them too...we nearly lost one of them but since the little fence is up it is starting to look much better. We are hoping she grows out of her bad habits soon.

Tagged - 7 Random Facts About Me & Another Celebration...

I was tagged a little while ago by Cathy from Avalon Rose Design. I'm supposed to share 7 facts about myself, some weird, some random. So here we go....

1. I knew I was pregnant at only 3 weeks...well before the doctor conformed it. I craved salami and cucumber dip at 5am every morning before work for about 2 months...I knew something was going on! What a breakfast!!!

2. My given name is Irish and my surname is Macedonian...put them together and it gets a little confusing for most people. By the way...I am not Irish or Macedonian.

3. I have a huge amount of scrapbooking items that I have not touched in years which I took up just after Jake was born and we used to have big scrapbooking nights and scrap away till all hours in the morning.

4. I found the Fox FM fugitive and won $5000 7 years ago. For those who do not know, FOX FM is a radio station in Melbourne and they had a person walking around Melbourne undercover and if you asked the right person if they were the FOX FM fugitive you won the cash they had up on offer. I woke up one morning thinking it was the day I was going to be lucky...had the itchy hand and all. We went shopping at Westfield where he was suppose to be and the first person I asked was him. I nearly passed out! lol.

5. I meet my husband when I was 16yo, I know it was young but I knew we were meant to be.

6. I am very close to my in laws, I find myself blessed to have such wonderful in laws like I do. My mother in law tells everyone I am the daughter she never had as she had two boys. Our relationship is very rare and I consider her a second mother to me, she's just beautiful.

7. My dad has a nickname for me which I hate but I am just so used to now...he calls me googie egg or googie...you guessed it...I LOVE eggs! When I was a little girl and dad was home on a Sunday morning he used to cook me runny eggs and serve them to me in bed with little toasted bread fingers...I loved them and still do! When we were on our summer holiday this year Dad and Jenny stayed over night and once again Dad made us breakfast in bed...with runny googie eggs! :)

Today I am going to share a poem my father sent to me not too long ago which touched my heart...it was a chain email that has been kept alive and moving since 9/11. In memory of all those who perished; the passengers and the pilots on the United Air and AA flights, the workers in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and all the innocent bystanders. Our prayers go out to the friends and families left behind.

Today is the day...Vintage Mosaic Boutique has finally re-opened!!! But it doesn't stop there...this is my 10oth blog post plus did I mention my new look? Surprise, surprise!!! I have to say Cathy from Avalon Rose Design was absolutely fabulous as she always is, she really went right out of her way to make the new design 'me'. Cathy even added some of my personal pieces into the design like my aqua rhinestone photo frame and my beautiful aqua brooch. Words can not describe how I feel about Cathy...she is simply a beautiful person loading with lots of talent! Thank you Cathy just for being you :)

Moving Back Into My Website

Our Summer Holiday Part 6 ~ Dromana Beach Huts

Well...sometimes you just need to sit down on the beach and enjoy so come enjoy the lovely Dromana beach huts with us!

We really enjoyed our walk on the Dromana beach and watching the sun start to make its way down, there is something so relaxing about the beach...is it the sound of waves? The feel of sand between your toes or what you see when you look out over the horizon?

Whatever it may be the beach is truly a special place!

Our Summer Holiday Part 5 ~ Ashcombe Maze & Gardens

Hi everyone, as promised this post is a follow up to my last post from Shoreham...lots of photos in this one so be warned...you might want to go get a cup of tea!

Ashcombe Maze & Garden is home to Australia's oldest & most famous hedge maze, a beautiful circular rose maze, and the year round flowering Lavender Labyrinth - all set among 25 acres of world acclaimed gardens.

The traditional Hedge Maze is planted with more than 1000 cypress trees and thousands of metres of pathways. Now more than 3 metres high and 2 metres thick, the Mazekeeper clips the hedges 3 times a year.

The first trees planted on the property over 30 years ago, the lush evergreen "Cupresses Macrocarpa" are stunning and have been featured in all forms of media both locally and internationally. The dense sculptured walls of the two hedge structures now stand two metres wide and three metres in height and are enjoyed by those who face the challenge to lose themselves.

Luckly we were not amongst the ones who became lost! :)

This was my all time favourite part of the whole place, the hedging, the hidden door way, water, lavendar, big old urns, roses...ooh...so lovely!!!

the look, the smells & the sounds...all so perfect!

I think I could have sat there all day long...

We found a big old pond full of huge goldfish...Jake wanted to take them home lol.

Sorry fishy but you cant come home with us today.

The water Lillies were so pretty...pinks and whites all over the pond.

We could hear lots of frogs and tried to spot them but no luck...maybe next time.

Another huge water feature.

Lavender.

The Lavender Labyrinth is planted with lavender flowers all year round and the view is spectacular. More than 3000 lavender plants featuring more than 40 different lavenders.

Ashcombe's circular rose maze was the first of its kind planted in the world with 1200 rose bushes of over 200 varieties chosen for their colour & perfume. The object is to find your way to the centre - and then find your way out. Or you can just stop and smell the roses.

This garden below was one of the last gardens we saw before leaving...it was so very different to the rose garden & lavender fields but there was just something about it that I loved...maybe it had something to do with this amazing water feature & the bright red colour against the old burt out colours?

Our Summer Holiday Part 4 ~ Agapanthus Farm

I love taking a trip to Shoreham and visiting our favourite Agapanthus Farm...the colours are spectacular...the rich blues and the classic whites but back it onto a view like this and what can I say??? It is simply delightful!!!

Agapanthus are native to Sth Africa & popular for their foliage and long lasting flowers which come in a range of colours. Agapanthus are ideal background plants, edges, fence and driveway entrances. Grouped together, agapanthus make a truly stunning display.

We are going to be ordering a bulk lot of the 'Getty White' agapanthus for up both sides of the front driveaway once it gets a bit cooler. We originally had the 'Strawberry Ice' variety in there but I decided to put them in the back yard to go with my pierre de ronsard & iceberg roses so I cant wait to get them in.

These are the Strawberry Ice variety, a soft white with pale pink tips...very pretty in real life!!!

Well, thats it for me today there is more to come from Shoreham but it will have to wait till next time as there is so many photos I need to sort first...im kind of tired at the moment and need a rest but I dont think thats going to happen any time soon...so much to do! My Antique Rose Painting

Well, today I popped out to do a few things and amongst my choirs I was to pick up my new antique rose painting. A friend of mine found it at a market the other week and when I saw it I pleaded with them to let me take it home but no luck. Since then they found another piece which they wanted to pop in place of it so guess what...I received a call letting me know its now mine!!! Lucky me!!! I had planed on putting it in our study but I ended up placing it over the top of my sideboard in the kitchen...I think its just the right spot for it.

The detail of the roses are unbelivable and even look like you could lean in and grab them, I am so lucky to have such a beautiful piece hanging in our everyday sight...this will be a much loved piece for a very long time.
